I'm a planner. I didn't come by this naturally. As a child I was "fly by the seat of my pants" spontaneous. It's a trait that I picked up from my Dad. He rarely planned anything; it would drive my Mom crazy! I remember one morning we woke up and he said "Let's go for a drive!" We ended up in Canada (back in the day when it was a lot easier to cross the border).
Over the years, I've become a planner. Almost neurotically so. I can't do a move without planning at least six months in advance. So, when the six month until DEROS mark came and went, I freaked out a bit. Doesn't the Air Force know (or care) that I cannot do this move on short notice?!!? And, for me, anything under 6 months is short notice.
We thought that T would have orders in March. It didn't happen. He was told, April 11th, at the latest. Nope. That was the list of available assignments that he could choose from. By the time he was able to log into the system (he's doing NCOA) the list had two locations on it: Vandenberg, CA and Peterson, CO. That was for mandatory movers; the movers who had no retained eligibility and could not stay OCONUS.
I started to get frustrated. This was not good for my need for control over everything in my world. And, so much was dependent on that next duty station. I wanted to cry; I wanted to scream. Why were they waiting sooooo long?!?!
Fast forward to April 26. T ordered pizza for dinner. From Dominos. Later in the evening he received an e-mail with the subject "Orders." He got excited. He read the e-mail and realized that it was confirmation of our pizza order. *sad face* We went to bed. The next morning, he got an e-mail stating "Congratulations!" and it informed him that he must log in to the system to get the rest of the information. He cannot do this from home. The anticipation was getting to me.
After waiting for a loooong time, he called me and said "Peterson." We would be going back to Colorado! It's where we began! And, it's where C and M live. I couldn't be happier!
Now, we've got 4/5 months to plan a move! Let the madness begin!
